Government statistics frequently serve as background information or even evidence that is used in litigation under hearsay exceptions for public records/reports or vital statistics. The speaker will open the program with population, demographic, employment, and other statistics that are available from the U.S. Census Bureau and the United States Department of Labor. Next, the speaker will discuss federal law enforcement agency data, such as statistics from the Department of Justice and the United States Attorney General. The speaker will then focus on Ohio government statistics from agencies including the Ohio Attorney General, the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, the Ohio Public Defender, and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Attendees will specifically learn about a database called Statistical Insight which many public libraries provide for free as a gateway to both federal and state government statistical tables. The speaker will then provide a brief summary of economic and population data available by Ohio county. Finally, the speaker will conclude the program with information about local crime and police statistics, as well as safety, fiscal, human services, and other statistics for Cuyahoga County.
